A big southern squeeze to everyone who joined us on Friday at SuthinGirl Presents Fashion, Food & Finer Things at the fabulous AC Hotel Atlanta Buckhead at Phipps Plaza!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We are a city of gracious and gorgeous people!

Sooooo many people came out to welcome the new hotel into our neighborhood! Thank you for making both the Luncheon and Cocktail Party events that will be long remembered.

The AC Hotel provided an incredibly chic setting for partygoers, and as we transitioned from daytime to evening, the sexy glow of the hotel created the perfect vibe for mingling and celebrating the start of the weekend.

FASHION

Guests enjoyed private shopping at pop up shops created by Uncoded Era, Shaye Strager – Style Ambassador for India Hicks, Nicole Miller Atlanta, Alton Lane, Salacia Salts and Sandpiper.

SuthinGirl pampered her guests with interactive beauty experiences by Max Sanchez and his team from White Salon + Spa. Some got the ‘it braid’ from fashion week while others opted for a head full of loose waves.

There was a fun Balmain hair extension bar, decadent massage chair (the fellas were lined up for that!), a nail touch up station and an esthetician giving complimentary skincare consultations with premium samples from CosMedix.

The lovely ladies from NARS Boutique Atlanta made sure every girl had the perfect pout with their super popular Lippy Bar.

FOOD

1Kept Kitchen & Bar treated our tastebuds to savory surprises all day: from pork meatballs to veggie empanadas, watermelon & feta flatbread to pimento cheese & bacon jam, truffled popcorn to grilled Yakatori chicken.

Decadent custom cupcakes by Create Your Cupcake and award-winning gingersnaps by Susansnaps provided the sweetest finishing touch on the evening.

The SuthinPeach

The mixologists at 1Kept created a special cocktail just for SuthinGirl: The SuthinPeach! Peach infused gin with prosecco. It’s sweet and bubbly, and guaranteed to make you smile.

FINER THINGS

I love art. Love love loooovvve art. I treasure the memories of a few shared moments with friends during each event enjoying some of the many beautiful original works by acclaimed local artists that were featured and offered for purchase by CSparkman’s Articurate.

Richie Nuzz and the band El Quattro entertained us during the evening Cocktail Party with their pop/hip hop blend. Talk about the perfect soundtrack for the event! Guests were treated to an exclusive performance of Richie’s new hit single, 3 Days.

We heart our media sponsors, Modern Luxury’s Jezebel and The Atlantan magazines! Everyone went home with the latest issues and we look forward to sharing more photos from the events with you in their pages.

These goody bags were the best I’ve ever done, hands down. And I take a heck of a lot of pride in SuthinGirl goody bags, so that’s saying something. Thank you to all of our generous goody bag sponsors including Allqua Alkaline Water (the reason I felt so good the next morning) and YoToGo Greek Yogurt Holders!

FUNDRAISING

dsc_0235

Providing a give back opportunity at events is a long-standing SuthinGirl tradition, and makes for such a feel good. Thank you to the sponsors who donated over-the-top experiences and items to the Silent Auction to benefit Education Cures, and to guests who bid top dollar for them.

We are still tallying but it’s safe to say Education Cures was a big winner thanks to your generosity. I will post soon along with Katie Cyphers, founder of Education Cures, with an update on how much you raised and the immediate action that your dollars will provide for school age children in Sierra Leone!

MORE! MORE! MORE!

I love the warm hugs, new connections, vibrant energy, positive feedback and creative inspiration I get from events like these. Trust me, I’m looking forward to the next one just as much as you are!

After the Storm Comes Sunny Skies

Trust me…the LAST thing your SuthinGirl aspires to be is a storm chaser!! Right now, hurricane Hermine is blowing through Savannah and she needs to get a move on because this SuthinGirl has plans to spend the Labor Day holiday weekend with family at the beach on Tybee Island!

While my friends and fam wait out the winds and rain, I’m up here in Atlanta packing my bags in anticipation of the weekend’s sunshiny, breezy, cooler-than-average temps. It’s a metaphor for life, no? After the storm comes sunny skies!

I love to read. Especially in bed at night on vacation. With all my travel this year I’ve constantly been on the hunt for new books, and recently found the perfect love story for a holiday weekend at the beach: The Invitation by Lucy Foley. Here’s the summary that got me hooked…

“An evocative love story set along the Italian Riviera about a group of charismatic stars who all have secrets and pasts they try desperately–and dangerously–to hide.

Rome, 1953: Hal, an itinerant journalist flailing in the post-war darkness, has come to the Eternal City to lose himself and to seek absolution for the thing that haunts him. One evening he finds himself on the steps of a palazzo, walking into a world of privilege and light. Here, on a rooftop above the city, he meets the mysterious Stella. Hal and Stella are from different worlds, but their connection is magnetic. Together, they escape the crowded party and imagine a different life, even if it’s just for a night. Yet Stella vanishes all too quickly, and Hal is certain their paths won’t cross again.

But a year later they are unexpectedly thrown together, after Hal receives an invitation he cannot resist. An Italian Contessa asks him to assist on a trip of a lifetime–acting as a reporter on a tremendous yacht, skimming its way along the Italian coast toward Cannes film festival, the most famous artists and movie stars of the day gathered to promote a new film.

Of all the luminaries aboard–an Italian ingenue, an American star, a reclusive director–only one holds Hal in thrall: Stella. And while each has a past that belies the gilded surface, Stella has the most to hide. As Hal’s obsession with Stella grows, he becomes determined to bring back the girl she once was, the girl who’s been confined to history.

An irresistibly entertaining and atmospheric novel set in some of the world’s most glamorous locales, The Invitation is a sultry love story about the ways in which the secrets of the past stay with us–no matter how much we try to escape them.” • Amazon

Alright, girls. These suitcases aren’t going to pack themselves (and for me the packing and anticipation is part of the fun) so, I’m off! I’ll be posting fashion, food and finer things all weekend from the beach on Instagram so come on over, see what’s new and say hello!

Stay safe and have fun!

Edra and Cristina! Thank you for saving me one of the coveted goody bags from Nicole Miller Atlanta’s

VIP Grand Opening party!imageThere I was, strolling through a very quiet Phipps Plaza after an event the other evening when I passed by the window of the brand new Nicole Miller Atlanta boutique and THIS beautiful blue dress caught my eye.

I literally dreamed about it all night long and the next morning while I made my coffee, I worried someone would pop in first thing and buy it before I could get back. You know that little heart-skipping-a-beat feeling when you’re in love? I had it. Bad. Lucky me, now I also have that dress!

9th Annual Spring Dinner Dance New Year's In April: A Fool's Fete

Nicole Miller

Nicole Miller, what’s not to love? She’s a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design (my handsome SuthinGuy also hails from Rhode Island) and a fellow redhead! Her designs flatter and enhance a woman’s body more than any other designer I’ve ever worn.

Nicole’s designs ruche and seam in all the right places to simultaneously camouflage and accentuate, and taper in toward the knee for a sexy, feminine silhouette.

Here are a few of the looks I picked up from her new Spring/Summer collection…

NM Lace Jumpsuit

Did somebody say Girls’ Night Out?! It’s crazy but I’ve heard so many of my guy friends say they don’t find the jumpsuit look very sexy. But what do they know? We girls love them and I felt really confident and sexy in Nicole’s floral embroidered lace take on the look.

imageWILD about Nicole Miller’s ‘Arrow Mural’ flowy, long skirt. You should see how it moves when you walk! I’m going to wear mine with my black Wolford ‘Pure String’ Body Suit and Ivanka Trump ‘Klover’ Block Heel Sandals. Oooh! And big hoop earrings and a statement gold cuff. Yessss.

Eleanor Steward Brooks and Jane Steward, W by WORTH

W by Worth LogoHave you ever shopped a label sold exclusively by reps in their homes? It’s a pretty luxe shopping moment, especially when your rep is Jane Steward and you find yourself inside her fabulous 5th Avenue-lookalike Atlanta townhome.

Maison PerfumeI love every single thing about this vibrant, elegant woman. She exudes effortless, timeless style and even smells divine. (You know SuthinGirl got you the deets: Maison Francis Kurkdijan Paris’s ‘Baccarat Rouge 540.’ Notes: Jasmine, Saffron, Cedar Wood, Ambergris)

Jane and her sister Eleanor (fellow Savannah natives so you know they’re good people) make shopping the W by WORTH line feel like playing dress up with your best girlfriends.

The Italian-made fabrics, of-the-moment designs and painstaking attention to quality and detail are what elevates W by WORTH far above other similarly priced designer labels.

It’s funny, isn’t it? How you see yourself in a certain way and tend to go in the same direction whenever you shop…and then someone with a keen eye comes along and sees things in you that you didn’t even know were there! That’s the BONUS of working with Jane!!

With Eleanor’s help, she and I got a lot done the other day, that’s for sure. I’m excited to share with you my new W by WORTH pieces for the Spring/Summer. I can’t wait for them to start arriving like little Christmas presents on my doorstep!

image

Inside Jane’s genie bottle…racks upon racks of W by WORTH’s

sumptuous fabrics and Spring / Summer designs.W by Worth JacketThe rich metallic cinnamon color of this lightweight Faux Leather Stamped Croco Jacket is stunning! I’m going to pair it with white jeans and a cami now and a black pencil skirt and heels this fall.

W by Worth Sequined DressTotally one of those dresses that the embellishment of sequins caught by eye but I was like oh, I don’t know about the basic silhouette. Tried this Striped Sequin Dress on at Jane’s encouragement and holy wow! It’s a jersey knit and clings in the right spots, and the sequins are only on the front so you won’t risk tearing them off when you sit down.

W by Worth White DressIt’s been said a thousand times but bears repeating because it’s soooo true: SuthinGirl loves to sparkle. And there’s a subtle gold mixed with the ivory of this Foil Backed Cotton Denim Racer Back Dress that really appeals to me. Love that you can play with the top and bottom zippers to show more or less skin. Nips nicely at the waist. I’ll wear this to my next wine lunch with the girls!

W by Worth Bandeau TopYes, m’am. SuthinGirl bought herself a tube top! Well, W by WORTH calls it a Bandeau, so let’s do the same. *wink

Fatigue Green is not a color I readily associate with the spring, but let me tell you what. Mixed with white jeans and woven brown leather wedges it looks incredible and the color suits my red hair juuuuust fine. I have the perfect pair of bronzy Egyptian-style chandelier earrings to pair with it, too. I think with all that shoulder you really need something dangly and sexy on your ears! Comes in five colors.
W by Worth Fringe Top

When I first saw this sleeveless sweater top hanging on the rack I was like, no thank ya. In the past I’ve tried on sleeveless sweaters and felt they made me look like a linebacker. Not this one!

The Fringed Sleeveless Sweater is super lightweight and silky, and the shape is feminine and contoured at the waist.

Likey what you see? You have no idea. There’s soooo much more. Call Jane! She’s magic.

Kristin Williams

I have such a treat for you! We are going to spend the day with one of my favorite SuthinGirls, Kristin Williams, buyer and professional stylist at Berlin’s for Women in historic downtown Charleston, SC.

Kristin is going to show us around the store and give us the scoop on what trends we should be buying right now to freshen up our spring closet!

When you fall in love with something (probably more like somethings), it’s easy to make it yours! Simply click on any link in the post and you’ll be directed right to Berlin’s online shopping page.

Having grown up in Savannah, another gorgeous historic city in the lowcountry, I have a personal connection to Charleston as well as family who live there. A little SuthinGirl trivia for you before we begin: I used to think I was named for the character Ashley from Gone With the Wind, but noooope! SuthinMama says I was named for the Ashley River, a tidal river that flows right through the city of Charleston. True story! Alright, girls… Ready? Let’s go! And we’re off to Charleston…

image

Charleston was just waking up this morning when we began our day with Kristin at the venerable Berlin’s, holding court over the southern fashion scene since 1883 at the corner of Broad & King.

Oh, if these walls could talk… Inside Berlin’s for Women.

Trend: Lace Up

Pam & Gela Logo

Pam & Gela Logo 2

Pam & Gela PhotoTHE ORIGINAL BEST FRIENDS… Pam and Gela were the maximalist masterminds behind the extraordinary Juicy Couture brand. They created an unapologetic world where more was fun. Their unique take on everyday luxury and irreverent fashion expression served as an inspiration to a whole new generation of young designers and paved the gilded way for progressive, up and coming ready-to-wear brands. Now, they’re back…with Pam & Gela!

image

Lacing is a BIG embellishment trend this spring. I remember how fresh 3.1 Phillip Lim’s baseball stitch lace-up dresses looked last summer, and am glad to see this designer detail has found its way onto a variety of spring fashions including lounge wear, like this set from Pam & Gela.

Kristin and I were just talking about how perfect this set would be for a date night at home when you want to look cute and feel comfy.

Trend: Sequins

Frame denim and springy Eva & Claudi sequened v-neck tee. Coveting this Pam & Gela bedazzled—OMG bedazzzzled—Y’ALL t-shirt!

SuthinGirl is most definitely adding this beautiful Needle & Thread sequined bomber jacket to her closet this spring!

image

Needle & Thread beaded and sequined pieces hang alongside Jay Godfrey’s confident red dresses.

Trend: Pop of Color!

Shoshanna’s lace dresses would be perfect at a spring garden party with some fab nude heels. Or grab your mint julep and the biggest, most fabulous hat you can find, and wear one to a Derby party!

How do you like Rachel Zoe’s on-trend lace up dress in this confident red? I’m partial to anything with sweet bell sleeves.

image

This sunny, strapless dress by Jay Godfrey would look amaaaazing paired with your turquoise jewelry! My shopping cart is loading up as we speak…eeeek!

Did you notice the adorable spring clutch is even sequined? Love Berlin’s selection of handbags.

Doesn’t this picture make you happy? Look at the racks filling up with colorful, spring styles at Berlin’s!

Spotlight On: Kempner

Nan Kempner

Yves Saint Laurent and Nan Kempner

‘There is no such thing as a chic American woman. The one exception is Nan Kempner.’ DIANA VREELAND

Good lord, what I wouldn’t give to have someone like Diana Vreeland (not that there will ever, ever be another Diana Vreeland) say something like that about me one day!!!

Socialite / philanthropist Nan Kempner was an icon and fixture in both the fashion and party pages during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. She was renowned for her effortless chic style and legendary wardrobe. Plus, she was a lot of fun!

Chris & Meggie Kempner

Nan’s grandchildren, brother and sister Chris and Meggie Kempner, launched Kempner fashion label a couple of years ago. I’m kinda thinking they inherited their Grand Nan’s sense of style! Below are several looks from their Spring 2016 line…

image

Long vests are another hot trend for the spring! This Kempner gingham long vest could also work as a dress if you’re petite.

Kempner loves gingham and SuthinGirl loves separates. Buy one outfit and you get three…just pair each piece with a solid and voilà!

image

Kempner top and skirt; love the subtle stud embellishment (big spring trend and oh-so-Valentino-esque.)

Trend: Mini Skirts

Blouse with fun shoulder tie detail. Denim (big spring trend) pieced fabric mini skirt with tassel tie at waist. Both pieces by Elle Sasson.

Another great mix-and-match opportunity with Elle Sasson’s tropical print and bright red separates.

image

Cabana life! Elle Sasson blue and white striped top with tassel tie at neck and flouncy Jonathan Simkhai skirt.

Berlin’s carries a bunch of fun handbags at price points that make adding one to every outfit verrrrry tempting!!

image

Tired of the dark colors and heavy fabrics in your closet but spring hasn’t quite sprung where you live? Kristin’s got you covered!

image

How about this long vest by Drew (over long or short sleeves) and these ankle fray jeans from Mother? Kristin shared that ankle fray jeans are a cult fave so I’m totally adding a pair to my extensive (embarrassingly so) denim collection.

Pair a tank top with some Frame denim and this lightweight Pam & Gela moto jacket or show your true colors in this Maliparmi Lurex sparkly striped sweater.

Grace Kelly Wedding Lace 2Lace! I reeeeallly love lace. It used to be I’d have to snap it up whenever I’d find it (when it wasn’t on a wedding gown – haha), but those days are long gone! It’s a TOP spring trend and fashion designers are clearly as in love with it as I am because it’s everrrrrywhere.

Lace has been around since ancient times. Elegant and classic, it’s truly a form of art. It’s virginal when worn by babies and brides (Grace Kelly, you absolutely, hands down win for most dreamy bridal lace in 1956). It’s sexy when used to create drama on evening gowns and nightgowns.

Queen Elizabeth Lace CollarQueen Elizabeth, my fellow redhead and fashionista, really knew how to flaunt her lace. Those frothy collars of her were such a hot trend, even the men got in on the action.

Spanish mantillas are among my most favorite lace accessory. I haven’t quite figured out how to incorporate one into my SuthinGirl street style, but stay tuned…with me, you just never know! * wink

Look! There’s Jackie O wearing hers (and some FABULOUS earrings) in Seville, Spain in 1966.

Jackie O Mantilla

Today, lace still has all the mystique owed to its storied history, but thanks to the speed of machine-made lace and the variety of textiles with which to work, designers have transformed lace into extremely wearable forms. You’ll find lace dressed up or down, from shorts to gowns, t-shirts to high heels. Where once lace was only offered in black and white, it’s now available in a rainbow of colors.

Lace-making is an ancient craft but it was not made in its true form until the late fifteenth and early sixteenths centuries. True lace is created when a thread is looped, twisted or braided to other threads independently and originally made out of linen, silk, gold and silver threads. Today it is often made from cotton thread or a synthetic fibre. · MEANDERING THROUGH TIME WEBSITE

I’ve had this pretty Stella & Dot lace cuff for a couple of years and love it so much! Perfect way to add a touch of lace without going head to toe. I remember at the time I bought it, there was a very similar expensive one I coveted…and lookie loo. Seems good taste never falls out of fashion. The fabulous Auréilie Bidermann has a VERY similar silver-plated lace cuff for, gulp, $585.

I totally felt it today. Warm sunshine on my face that was somehow…different. Welcome,

Spring 2
Flowers 1As the sleepy little buds are waking from their winter slumber in your garden, stores are filling with brighter colors, lighter textures and more skin-baring designs.

I love a change in seasons because it heralds a bouquet of new trends with which we get to play. My faves this spring include bare shoulders, lace and lightweight denim. But there is more! Oh, yes! Sooooooo much more!

I recently caught up with Kristin while she was on a buying trip in New York and asked her to share her top spring trend picks this year. It was no quickie phone call, lemme tell you. You have no idea how much we love to talk fashion!

Bare Shoulders

image

One of my favorite rompers from last spring. Two trends representin’: Bare Shoulders and Lace

Today, let’s talk about one of SuthinGirl’s favorite trends…bare shoulders!

First things first: I hate to exercise. Haaaaate it. Ask any of my girlfriends. Don’t do it at all except when my arms are gonna be on display…cue the cute bare shoulder trend, right?!

Ever done a chair dip? What about palm rotation exercises? They’re super simple. I do them seasonally and lemme tell you, they work. Tightens and tones both biceps and triceps, and gives you pretty definition. Start with 15 and work your way up to as many as you can.

Listen to a SuthinGirl Spotify Playlist while you tone those lovely arms.

Chair Dips

Chair Dips 2

Basketball Arm ExercisePalm Rotations

With arms out at shoulder height, palms up, palms down. Again Again. Again. Speed it up! These little darlings look oh-so-easy (and really they are, which is why the appeal to me) but after about fifty, tell me you don’t feel the burn!!! Best done to your favorite music. And in my experience, after, not before, chair dips.

Bare shoulder tops and dresses are good investments this time of year because you can layer a blazer or sweater on top to start wearing them now.

Aqua Hoop Earrings

Aren’t these Aqua ‘Bradley’ Hoop Earrings to die for? They remind me of some Dolce & Gabbana hoops I saw recently.

Bare shoulder tops pair beautifully with the skinny jeans, high-waisted shorts, skirts of all lengths, chandelier and hoop earrings, and bangle bracelets you already have in your wardrobe.

Because you’ll be showing more skin up top, remember to strike a balance down below. A good rule of thumb is if your top is bare shouldered and fitted, cover up down below. If your bare-shouldered top is blousy or long-sleeved, you can go tighter or show more leg down below.

Keep in mind it’s not about buying a whole new wardrobe or changing your look head to toe (no one should attempt to wear more than one or two trends at a time!), it’s about incorporating a new top here, a new accessory there…just freshening up the look and feel of the beautiful things you already own.
